Grandmaster Frederick J. Villari founded the "Shaolin Kempo Karate" System.  In the three decades since it was started, the Villari's Organization has grown to become highly recognized and respected throughout the world.  Grandmaster Villari's art traces it's origin back over a thousand years to the Shaolin Temple in China.  Many of those basic methods are still used in his schools today.  The system's methods are very popular today, and have become famous (and often copied), because of it's very effective "Four Ways Of Fighting".

Some evolutionary changes were necessary, and are still ongoing, due to modern culture and the technological development of many types of weapons.  The way people have to defend themselves have changed over the time as well, and the system reflects those changing situation and adapts to over come them.

People in today's society are wiser and more knowledgeable about weapons and methods of combat.  The media and Hollywood have really brought the martial arts and combative sports to the public eye with more graphic motion pictures and television programs, not to mention the telecast of events such as the Ultimate Fighting Championships, Pride, etc.  Therefore, movements and techniques had to be changed and updated.  Grandmaster Villari developed a fighting system that combines the "Four Ways Of Fighting" into one.

Grandmaster Villari realized, because of his varied wealth of experience and his dedication in seeking to create the ultimate fighting system, that each fighting system offered something unique, and that each also had it's own weaknesses, and that those very weaknesses could make a fighter vulnerable.  Grandmaster Villari, after studying and mastering many different styles and ways of fighting, concluded that there were really on four ways of fighting.

    1. With the Hands - Punching, striking (open or closed hand), or use of any part of the arms, elbows, forearms, etc.

    2. Kicking - Using the feet, legs, knees, or shins.

    3. Felling - That is to knock an opponent off his feet by throwing, tripping, pulling, pushing, shoving, or scooping.

    4. Grappling - By either wrestling, holding, breaking, locking bones or joint against nerve centers.

Grandmaster Villari understood, after his years of study, that the ultimate in self defense did not lay in one system or way of fighting alone.  By combining the "Four Ways Of Fighting" he devised and developed ways to integrate methods the various methods of fighting into one, thus eliminating weaknesses and vulnerabilities.  This is the central theory and method behind Villari's art of Shaolin Kemp Karate.

The Shaolin Fighting System is the backbone of the Villari system since Grandmaster Villari felt it was the best for promoting overall good health, wisdom, and longevity.  This system is well balanced, incorporating mind, body, and spirit into one.  In the realm of fighting, Shaolin is renowned for it's devastating kicking and punching techniques.  It incorporated the movements of the five animals: Tiger, Crane, Snake, Dragon, and Leopard.  The Shaolin theory of fighting  is based on circular movements, speed, conditioning, and developing strong internal energy, tendons, and ligaments.  This is essential for producing a superior fighter.

Karate is also highly favored by Grandmaster Villari.  And he regards it as simple and quick to learn and execute.  Known fir it's linear and angular movements with quick shuffles and inline fighting movements, karate-type blows, and more mechanical in execution than Shaolin blows.  They are more explosive.  Karate concentrates more on external power and fewer moves are required to get the job done.

Grandmaster Villari also utilizes the art of Kempo.  It is a mixture of hard and soft movements that blend together nicely, though it is not sophisticated enough in itself.  Kempo lacks the grace of Shaolin with it's integrated leg maneuvers, the quick shuffles of Karate, and the explosiveness of hard Karate.

Grandmaster Villari also incorporated the venerable art of ChinNa into the Shaolin Kempo Karate System.  It is the ultimate form of neutralizing an opponent; utilizing holding, seizing, locking, throwing, felling, and delivering controlled pain.  No other martial art gives such control over an attacker.

Grandmaster Villari also teaches the moves of the Immortal Monkey, known for it's art of illusion.  The monkey cannot be hit.  It's movements are lightning-quick with ability to change its direction rapidly.  It never exhausts its energy and has superior longevity.  The monkey is always happy!

Grandmaster Villari is one of the pioneers of martial arts in the Western World.  He has revolutionized and enhanced the martial arts, and made them more practical for a modern world.  Both armed and unarmed, as well as, defense against weapons are taught in his system.  No are of self-defense has been overlooked.  Grandmaster Villari revolutionized the use of everyday objects as weapons long before that became part of the hot fad of current "reality" based self defense systems.

His contribution to the Asian Fighting Arts helped open the way of the Asian Martial Arts, on a massive scale, to the layman.  Before Grandmaster Villari, teaching the martial arts to the masses was considered taboo.  He mystified the prejudice that only a few select people should have the opportunity to learn these skills.  He showed Westerners of all ages and cultures "The Way of the Asian Martial Arts".  Grandmaster Villari has also brought into his system the fighting arts of cultures from all around the world including Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.  If the information from that system is worthwhile teaching to others, and practical in a real way, Grandmaster Villari includes it in his system.

No other master or system can lay claim or take credit for the unique fighting art know as the Shaolin Kempo Karate System.  Hi input and involvement produced a major turning point in the teaching of the Martial Arts.  Grandmaster Villari is still actively teaching and demonstrating the martial arts in his schools today.
